Look amazing- Makeup for older brides on your Wedding day
As a makeup artist myself on the wrong side of 40, I know quite alot about looking fantastic for your wedding .I have had many years experience , working with all skin types and ages.
I have learned from personal experience and from working with many mature brides. As time takes its toll, the texture of our skin and hair changes. I have experimented with many products from the large cosmetic houses creating a personalised look that you will love.
My tips to help you achieve the perfect look for yourself.
Bridal Makeup for Mature Skin- Look fantastic
Because mature skin has a tendency to be dry I would advise increasing your water intake .Regular exfoliation combined with a good quality cleanser, toner and moisturising routine. I am a big fan of the Liz Earle skin care range. The hot cloth cleanser and polish which is an amazing exfoliator in itself is a must.
Perfecting primers for mature brides
In addition to a great moisturising routine the correct choice of primer is essential .This helps to keep your foundation in place.
There are many different types of primer available. I find that Nars offer two great primers that I love to work with for mature skin . The “Smooth and Protect Primer” Is oil free and perfects and protects your skin. This primer effectively blurs imperfections and fine lines while ensuring a long lasting finish to your foundation
I also love Nars Pore and Shine control primer. This effectively does control shine. With a long lasting mattified appearance to your makeup. This primer minimizes pores creating an amazing base for a long lasting finish to your makeup
For those of you having problems with open pores Benefit Pore Professional is a fantastic product. A lightweight tinted primer for coverage of open pores .Creating a super smooth base for your foundation leaving you looking radiant for your big day
Foundation for the mature bride
Your choice of foundation needs to be light weight with a high quality pigment pay off. If you choose too heavy a foundation this will accentuate any lines and wrinkles. I love to use the Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation for full but natural looking coverage .This foundation is designed to feel totally natural. It will last up to 16 hours and comes in a full range of shades.
Creating a perfect base for contouring and blusher.
Wedding Makeup – Eyes
Especially important while working on the eyes of the older bride you need to be extra careful .This skin is especially thin and delicate .Therefore we do not want to hi light any wrinkles and creases in this area.
Under the eyes the same rule applies and some concealers are too light reflective and heavy . Bare Minerals Stroke of Light concealer is absolutely magic in this area. With its brightening effect it will diffuse dark shadows and reduce the appearance of fine lines
For the mature bride this look can vary as with younger clients. I always ask lots of questions during consultation to be sure I know the look my bride would like. From full on glamour to extremely light and natural .
Powder shadows work well for the older bride as shiny, glittery shadows can magnify imperfections and creases. Create a youthful open eyed appearance disguising the appearance of hooded eyes ,by taking a light beige eye colour high above the crease of the eyelid .
This needs to be kept soft. I find dark shadows work well applied with a fine angled brush. Grey eyeliner is softer than black and has a wonderful eye opening effect .If you are using a pen liner it is advisable to blend this with the angled brush to keep the soft effect
To finish the look I love to add individual false eyelashes of varying lengths to make your eyes Pop –they look great on your photographs
I would always recommend a great brow shape before the day to remove any unsightly stragglers from beneath the brow line then I can enhance the colour and contour of your brows to define your facial features .Avoid over heavy over angular brows though.
Make sure your lips are not dry in the run up to the wedding. Light lip exfoliation and lots of lip balm will get your lips in tip top shape and very kissable. I would always use a lip liner for definition and to stop your lipstick from bleeding . Apply your lipstick with a good quality lip brush, blotting between the first and second coats to ensure a long lasting finish.
Make sure you have lots of good quality photographs taken at your makeup trial then you can look objectively at the way you will be captured on your wedding photographs and see yourself as beautiful and confident.Or if doing your own makeup following my tips and hints just take lots of selfies and keep smiling .
